you may notice my instagram getting a bit quiet over the next few days - that’s because i’ll be working on the production team of a huge event for the rest of the week. it’s something i do every year, and while i love working events and being part of the behind-the-scenes team for these massive and complex productions, it’s intensely draining and leaves me no time or energy for literally anything else.
even with all the excitement and joy, this is always a difficult week - there are so many people and teams and logistics to coordinate, and taking care of myself while also managing everything else is a struggle every year. and with today’s supreme court cases debating trans, non-binary, and lgbtq+ rights in the workplace, things feel very intense right now. with that in mind, i wanted to create a simple three-card spread for self-care, one that makes space for boundaries, rest, and recovery even in the midst of long days and challenging problem-solving. i’m labeling this as a spread for events, but it could be used anytime something is coming up that you know will drain your energy and require extra care to navigate.
boundaries to set: queen of pentacles. grounded, resourceful, and living firmly in the present, this artist of earth knows how to keep lines between work and play, pleasure and productivity, responsibility and release. she doesn’t take on what she can’t handle, and doesn’t apologize for prioritizing what’s important. by delegating and being realistic about what’s possible, i can maintain boundaries this week that protect my rest, comfort, and ability to stay on top of my game. it can be tempting to say yes to everything, but sometimes we need to push back and find different solutions - and harnessing the energy of this queen can help me stay honest about what i can and cannot accomplish with the limited resources i will have.
finding balance: king of pentacles. this ruler of earth is generous, pragmatic, and responsible, someone who doesn’t make hasty decisions or rush progress. he moves patiently and thoughtfully, always willing to share and collaborate when it comes to resources, and attentive to the details that can make or break a potential solution. to me this king is extremely balanced - he utilizes what he has, urges others to be resourceful and honest, and is able to step back and let things run their course instead of micromanaging every aspect of the journey.
how to recharge: five of swords. this card’s message is simple and clear - don’t waste energy on conflicts that don’t go anywhere. there will be a lot of negotiation this week, a lot of battles that feel unwinnable or struggles that seem bigger than they are, and i can recharge by letting go of the need to win or be right, especially when it comes to issues that don’t particularly matter. i need to be attentive to where my energy, ideas, and skills will be best used, rather than trying to control everything or butting into places that i’m not needed. and by saving my mental energy and problem-solving skills for the places i’m most useful, it’ll be easier to keep from burning out too early or overextending myself.
these cards feel exactly right in this moment, urging me to be calm, practical, and resourceful, pushing me to think critically and to save my energy for what matters, and to leave passion and emotion at the door - i’ve only got earth and air for this week, and that feels like the balance i need.
wishing you a beautiful rest of the week. take care of yourself, and i’ll see you on monday!
