i'll be the first to tell you that i can be a rather quiet, serious, intense person. i'm rarely the loudest person in the room — and when i do speak i tend to dive head first into tender topics. i'm generally not afraid to explore the scary, the mysterious, the weird, the taboo. i want to know what lives underneath everything.
but i also have a deep and profound relationship with laughter. my sense of humor tends to be sharp and sarcastic, but i love to laugh, to tease, to find the tension between strange and silly.
this aspect of my personality doesn't disappear when it's time for spiritual or creative work: in fact, i consider laughter and play an essential aspect of my personal tarot practice. for me, laughter and tarot go hand in hand.
and laughter, joy, playfulness, and connection can feel hard to come by. it's so much easier to drift through our days, to lose ourself in grief or sorrow or anxiety or frustration or anger, to stubbornly cling to any bit of "normal" we can find.
but avoidance and denial are not the solutions to the problems of our world. no matter how hard we're working, it's always necessary to find little pockets of delight, to connect with those we love, to remember what we're fighting for. and it can also feel harder and harder to find those pockets, to create and protect them, to not allow ourselves to hide in them for so long that we forget everything else.
the core question is this: how do we sustainably stick with the hard stuff when it's so uncomfortable to do so? how do we not look away from the challenges of our world? how do we stay engaged, stay connected, stay focused on what truly matters?
one idea: we talk to one another.
we share ideas, stories, dreams, songs, images, meanings, longings.
we engage with each other in ways that don't start with the biggest, hardest questions, even if we eventually find ourselves there.
and we do this using a language we all speak: the tarot, and specifically the archetype of the lovers.
laughing lovers is a 28-day guided community experience devoted to play, pleasure, connection, discovery, and responsibility. every day in february, i'll share a tarot card (many chosen with intention, with a few additional randomly chosen cards from the deck sprinkled in) and kick us off with thoughts on how the day's card can speak to to love, relationship, devotion, community, responsibility, and care.
but these will just be starting points: everyone is encouraged to share their own meanings for these cards, to consider how they intersect with the lovers archetype and other cards in the deck, to question and chat and laugh and play, to offer stories or songs or whatever inspiration may come. whether you're brand new to tarot or have been reading for decades, your experience matters. we want to hear your voice.
this ongoing conversation will take place in a private section of the 3am.tarot sanctuary, allowing you to connect with other tarot seekers, build new connections, and talk about what keeps you going — and what matters most.
what if you let yourself approach tarot with playfulness, curiosity, and ease? what if you learned to engage with your cards in a way that felt more accessible, less anxiety-fueled?
this is the aim of laughing lovers: to introduce you to a daily tarot practice that is community-driven, lighthearted, and helps you more gently work your way into the hard stuff.
laughing lovers is a very simple premise. as soon as you sign up, you'll receive a link with instant access to the 3am.tarot sanctuary so that you can introduce yourself, get to know people, and familiarize yourself with the space.
on february 1st, i'll open up some additional private channels and we'll begin exploring the tarot together. every day (i live in EST and will post in the mornings here) i'll share a new tarot card for us to discuss, and folks can share as much or as little as they like in response to that card.
the sanctuary is an ongoing space, and laughing lovers participants will be invited to stay through the end of march to continue building connections. at the end of march, anyone who is also a paid subscriber of my newsletter can continue to engage indefinitely.
i hope to see you there.
want more information? not sure if laughing lovers is right for you? i'll be sharing additional details through the rest of the month on my newsletter and instagram. and if you aren't finding the answers you need, feel free to drop me a line at 3am.tarot@gmail.com — i'd be happy to chat with you to see if this container would be a good fit.
